      Indian government has enhanced the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) target to 14,000 MWh from earlier 4,000 MWh as storage prices have dropped.

      The Ministry of Power has issued an advisory to all states and implementing agencies to award all the BESS contracts under Viability Gap Funding (VGF) program by June 2025 so that installations can be completed by May 2027.

      RBI Increases Priority Sector Lending Cap for Renewables to ₹350 Million

      The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has increased the lending limit for the renewable energy sector to USD 4.08 million in its new guidelines for priority sector lending (PSL) set to take effect from April 1, 2025. PSL is a lending requirement administered by the RBI, requiring banks to give a minimum proportion of their loans to sectors of development importance or the sectors that have difficulty getting loans and RE sector is included in this policy.

      After the government had notified the Carbon Credit Scheme in June 2023, it has approved a detailed procedure for offset mechanism for eight different segments, including for RE, GH2 production, industrial efficiency, landfill methane recovery and mangrove afforestation and reforestation. Through which, entities can earn carbon credits. This, according to research firm, Wood Mackenzie, is expected to improve credit quality and lead to a rise in carbon offset prices.
